The Man Who Sold The World

from Stereogum

Bizzare: Images of dead celebs Kurt Cobain,Joey Ramone,Sid Vicious & Joe Strummer being used in the new Doc Martens advertisements.
Clever how they're using well-established rock icons who each have their own long-existing and solid fanbase to try promote their products-and how these ads try to expand those products into some kind of grandiose experience or concept with help from those dead people-I mean, the Doc Marten boots aren't even properly distinguished in those ads (they could well be mistaken for everyday fishermen footwear),nor are they placed at the centre of attention.Slightly exploitative (but inoffensively so),but at least it gets the company some much-needed publicity-when was the last time you heard of Doc Marten boots?
Exactly.
Funniest comment I spotted at the Stereogum page:
This is bullshit. Everyone knows you wear birkenstocks in heaven.
