Ocean's Thirteen

Watched Ocean's 13.I *think* I enjoyed the first one but don't really remember any details, while I clearly remembered how bad the sequel was and why I hated it.The cast and makers seem to have this desperate need to look and exude a presence defined by extreme awesomeness-leading the franchise to a low point where the stories become a mere platform for the cast to flaunt themselves and act cheeky. While in similar films like Pulp Fiction & Resevoir Dogs the characters are cool because of how Tarantino has shaped them,in Ocean's the characters are supposed to be cool just because they're good-looking or whatever.Big,glitzy,soulless.Ocean's 13 has few small laughs, but is a big improvement from the previous two and is somewhat absorbing. After the first 15/20 minutes during which the cast (esp Pitt & Clooney) bask in their superhuman coolness-in which they're enviably dressed in expensive designer suits, and basically do nothing but stand around and grin a lot while delivering "witty" lines, the story finally kicks off and the Mr Universe contest takes a hike.Few times the plot seems undecided and jumps from one point to another, and many of the situations are hopelessly contrived (Now the door can't open?-How convenient). But the small jokes are executed well, the subplots are minimal and don't interrupt the focus of the story. The film as a whole,is slightly flimsy but is a coherent and interesting small (but solid) story that wraps up beautifully. 3.5/5
