Hospital Beds

1. Had fish pita and berry yogurt for lunch today-most satisfying lunch I've had in ages. Was sitting alone at one of the tables behind union house, and this random angmoh sitting across me started chatting and we talked about some equally random stuff. These Aussies, you've gotta appreciate the audacity they have when it comes to these things.I hope by the time I graduate,I'll be as shameless and unapologetic as they are.No joke.

2. Went to the MAS office in the morning to get my ticket stamped, the waiting process was about 10 minutes or so,while at the counter the grumpy Indian lady wrapped the whole thing up within 3 minutes.Just when I'm convinced MAS is completely unreliable, they surprise me with competence.

3. After the little time spent at the MAS office,I still had some time to squeeze out of my 2-hour tram ticket-so I went down to the city library to borrow some CD's.People here must pay heaps of tax, cos' the choice of the cd's here diverse and of good quality, unlike the unwanted, obscure stuff you'd expect to find on government library shelves. Was lucky to find The Strokes Is This It & Greenday's International Superhits album, this means I don't have to buy em' to enjoy em'.Plus they also had an old Petshop Boys and Shiela on 7 album. My lucky Tuesday.

4. With Channel 7 & 9 showing all kinds of garbage,I've been watching more of SBS-yesterday More Than Enough Rope, with Andrew Denton was on-it's a program recapping some of the famous and more interesting interviews the show has had,and a couple of times during the show the host will pause the footage and explain something, then rewind or forward.Yesterday night Cate Blanchett was on-and it must've been one of the most interesting interviews I've seen-they covered a lot of areas from managing family life,to her reported Oscar-related feud with Naomi Watts and her personal growth as an actress. She talked about how it was really easy for an actress to be typecasted and unwillingly conformed into a certain type of role (i.e:Gwyneth Paltrow and the whole freaky weirdo routine is getting really, really tired),which is why she kept choosing different genres and directors to work with as to challenge herself and expand her career longevity.Funniest part was when she talked about how spending time with her children drove her husband and her a bit mad-while watching The Wiggles with their children, they started to analyse the characters and scene transition, going into arguments and lengthy discussions about The Wiggles.

5. I don't watch Big Brother (not because I hate the contestants-I actually sympathise with them, but let's not get into that-I just think the whole thing's pointless) but at times when I do catch a minute or two of the show between flipping channels,I find that sometimes the people in it have something worthy to say.Like few weeks ago,in an argument between the contestants while they were discussing about something (I think it was about someone suggesting that backstabbing should be banned),Nick Sady went on to say something like,"This is a house with different people who are just different. We're all different, and some personalities are bound to clash".Then Emma went on to say that she can't be bothered to fix relationships she knows won't work, and it's better to accept the facts and try to be civil about the whole situation. There's something really deep in there, something you could probably use in your own life.

6. I've officially decided that The Strokes are the second best band on earth (behind The YYY's).I like a lot of other bands, but rarely do I actually rank them, unless I'm really really sure I like them.I find that some bands can be very inconsistent-a good album, then bad, then good-that it's a bit hard to like them as a band.So far only the YYY's and The Strokes have proven to be consistently good and innovative enough to not sound dull/repetitive.

Cold War Kids-Hospital Beds

I've listened to that song hundreds of times, but with each listen it just gets better.
